Notes

This yarn is so dark I didn’t want to frustrate myself by trying a super complicated pattern. Hell, I was having trouble even with a basic wattle stitch. So decided to design something myself. Basic yet textured enough and not too open.

Combination of trinity and hdc braid.

Multiple of 2 + 2 for the border stitches. (Trinity is technically a multiple of 3 but the first is the border stitch.)

SPECIAL STITCHES

Foundation hdc (fhdc): Tutorial by Maggie Weldon.

Third loop hdc (tlhdc): with the wrong side facing you, work hdc into the third loop of the hdc by inserting hook only into that loop from bottom to top. This pushes the worked-in stitch to form a braid on the right side of the fabric. Tutorial by Yarnspirations.

Trinity stitch: insert hook in base of previous st, pull up loop, pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook, ch 1 to secure. The columns will appear with the completion of row 3 of the trinity section.

On subsequent rows, pick up first loop of the trinity at the base of the previous stitch in the row, pick up second loop in the eye of the trinity cluster from previous row, and pick up third loop from the ch 1 space between the two clusters on previous row.

Back loop hdc (blhdc): work a normal hdc into the back loop of the top two loops of stitch.

Back loop single crochet (blsc): work a single crochet into the back loop only of stitch.

Odd numbered rows are the right side.

Ch 1 on the hdc rows can be replaced with a standing dc.

Row 1 (RS): Fhdc 32.

Starting Hdc Braid Section

Row 2 (WS): ch 1, tlhdc in every stitch. (32)
Row 3 (RS): ch 1, hdc across. (32)
Row 4 (WS): ch 1, tlhdc across. (32)

Trinity Section

Row 5 (RS): ch 1, sc in first st, trinity stitch across to last st, sc in last st. (15 trinity clusters, 2 scs)

Repeat row 5.

Ending Hdc Braid Section

Row 1: On the wrong side, ch 1, hdc in every stitch and ch sp across. (32)
Row 2 (RS): ch 1, blhdc across. Note: the braid will remain on the right side of the fabric.
Row 3 (WS): ch 1, hdc across.
Row 4 (RS): ch 1, blsc across.

Fasten off.
