this project https://www.ravelry.com/projects/oilseeker/bonjour-brioch... has a number of notes about corrections and adjustments; I too think the 5 garter repeats in the instructions (tho it says 10?!) is too narrow, but may only do 6 or 8

8 garter ridges before starting the brioche. I think it’s possible I could have done this as a single ball of yarn w/out splitting into two, but I’m already here so it’s fine (ed: turns out it looks really good like this, the variation is fantastic)

I did completely misinterpret the previous knitter’s description of how to fix the decreases, so I only did

• decr/brp/brk/brp

instead of

• decr/brp/(brk/brp)x2

For the first three sets of decreases. It looks to be slouchy enough to just keep going (checked with some of the yay knitting folks), esp since ripping out and picking up brioche is evil.
