Notes

I decided to make this pair of slippers out of grey wool gifted from my mother’s stash, as Melly liked the grey pools in her Oriental Lily and would point them out whenever she put it on.

To make a stiffer fabric than the slippers I knitted for myself I used 2 courses of 8ply crêpe.

I traced around the shape of her foot to make the sole of the slipper. I knitted each row in flat for a garter stitch. I started by casting on 4 stitches at the heel end, kfab each side to increase to 6, then again to 8 stitches for the blade of the foot, adding or decreasing stitches from then on, to meet the contour of the foot outline.

Pick up stitches around the edge and knit them.
Place a round marker (rm) - this is the toe, and knit 3 rounds.
K2tog, ssk, place stitch marker (sm), knit to 2stitches before the rm and ssk.
K2tog, (sm), k2tog, 1 stitch before rm wiggle that marker out (or cut it if it’s disposable)
K3tog and pull it tight. This might be tough because of the tension - I used a 2mm crochet hook (use a round marker if you need it).
K 1 row
Slip 2 left, k2tog
K row
× 2
°K2tog 7 pairs at the toe end
K row° × 3 (on third knit row k2tog at the heel)
K to toe end (rm)

Cuff:
Stitch count? If it’s odd k2tog at toe end.
K1p1 rib, 6 rows

Bind off:
K2, pass first stitch over to bind off,
Slip stitch to the left, knit it,
Knit, bind off, slip left, knit
Repeat to end.

Invisible bind off by pulling through the last stitch, threading under the first stitch of the round (I used a crochet hook) and then back into the loop it started in.
