Love Alice Starmore’s ideas, and have added charts and modified the neckline to a henley with buttons. The yarn is very soft and lightweight. Would make this pattern again immediately! Very fun!
Yarn amounts used for Men’s Medium size:
Light Gray: 844 yards DK
Charcoal (black) Gray: 1151 yards DK.
Very very close to amounts given on the original design page.
Had 11 g. and 6 g. left of each.

Overall: Loved this pattern! Next time will make blue on blue and in different yarn, perhaps one that is light but not hirsute. In a heavy wool, this garment would be too heavy, but something about the alpaca, even at 50% is too stretchy for the collar and button band.
I backstitched the shoulder “seams” (3 needle Bind-Off) to make them taut, so that the shoulders don’t grow wider with wear. Also yarn is slightly “hairy”. Doh! Could look rough around collar over time….worries me….

The Knitting as it happened:
March 3/22: Changed out the charts and wound the yarn into center-pull balls.
March 4: started knitting.
March 12/22: Have begun sleeve steeks and a six inch henley opening steek as well.
March 21/22: Finished body of sweater, and am grafting shoulders. I used an inside three-needle BO. Need to buy buttons as neckline will be interesting with henley opening!
March 23/22: Knitting first sleeve, and half-way to elbow. A bit confused by the gusset’s edge stitches and how to eliminate them. Will follow instructions just in case they are what exactly actually happens..ha ha ha.
March 30/22: Knitting second sleeve, and have figured out gusset; so obvious now that I’ve done TWO!
April 4th/22: Completed collar, and sewed down on inside. Just have to sew on buttons, sew down steeks, and block. But I’m calling it finished as this is exactly one month. I’ll take a week to finish/finish/finish and post photos after blocking. Just love the new henley collar.
April 7/22: After blocking collar seems too soft, perhaps should have left two colour knitting closer to fold line. Garment stayed same measurements. New photos posted. Some minor finishing still before mailing, hopefully tomorrow to M.
April 8/22: Changed the buttons from reddish to brown “fake old wood” at the last minute before packaging for courier. I feel the older looking fake wood makes the garment less ostentatious.
