I have knitted a couple of cowls just recently out of left over yarn. Thea told me tonight that she wouldn’t mind one out of this yarn that has been sitting on the shelf for years. She chose a pattern carefully - it was already in my library, which was good! I thought that it was a DK or Worsted given the ball and gauge, but I figured out that it must be closer to bulky once I had knitted for a while - it was going to be way too tall at 40sts (per pattern). So, I ripped back to the cast on, minus 10sts, and started knitting again …

Ended up splitting the yarn in half in terms of number of plies for all of the crochet b/c the edging was going to be huge and overwhelming otherwise. Unfortunately, this meant that I cut the yarn into lengths in order to facilitate the “unplying”. This, of course, resulted in many many yarn ends to weave in! I think I would have been better off doing the original base dc around the knitted section with the yarn whole rather than split for the better coverage that that would have given. I’m not sorry that I split the yarn for the decorative crochet, though.

As always, the buttons make a huge difference to how the garment looks, I think. I love the ones Thea chose for this! Even though some might think these ones are only for kids, I love the Joie de Vivre these bring to this cowl and I actually think they make the cowl more wearable!
