Nov 3 The Wedding Day
It was all perfect!!! The veil looked amazing with the dress and it stayed on just fine!!!!!!
10/29 I have been procrastinating on figuring out how to attach the comb to the veil. But it is now or never. I didn’t want to actually sew onto the stitching because it would pull the stitches. So i used stain ribbon and wove it twice through where it was gathered and going to be folded. Then I used the same ribbon (it was really long) to sew the metal comb on going around the woven ribbon. So I didn’t actually go around any of the stitching just around the ribbon. It worked perfectly. Then I wove the end to the middle of the comb and tried it off. So when it is time to take it out all you have to do is cut the ribbon, and unravel it. Brilliant !!!!
9/16 Took the veil to the bridal shower and tried it one to figure out how she was going to wear it. Once we folded it over about a 1/3 of the way every in the room (mom’s and grandma’s) all agreed that that was perfection.
9/10 Josh came up and built the blocking frame and helped me sew it one. It is HUGE!!!!!!! But so amazing and there are no really visible mistakes!!!
9/6 Finished!!!! I have to sew the ends of the edging together. Then my son is going to come up and help me build the blocking frame from pvc piping.
6/12 I have finished 4 section of the edging. As everyone has said, this is a very slow process. I add 4mm Swarsvoski white pearls to the edging. There are only 3 per 12 row repeat, thank goodness. But they are worth the time and effort.
4/16 finished the center circle. I but it on 4, 60 inch cables so I could pin it out before I started adding the edge. Thank goodness there was no glaring mistakes .
So on to the edging
3/12 I have been moving along pretty well know. I have just finished Row 131 which is about 50% done!!! Happy Dance!!!!
- I sit at my white desk to knit. I was finding that I was making too many mistakes sitting on the couch. Don’t know what the difference is but it is working out better this way.
- I count everything. Especially the knit row. I actually make sure that I have done the pattern row correctly while I do the knit rows. It helps to catch any mistakes (missing YO’s) right then where I can fix it. So I don’t really count the number of stitches I actually look and make sure that the yo’s and k2tog are in the right places as I knit.
3/3 I pin out the circle today. Will be the last time I can do this putting the stitches on about 5 different cables to see if it is coming out right. It looks really good. Thank goodness.
The rest will be done blind. I might try to set it out before I start the edging. It measured about 3ft wide and that was through row 99 about 30% done.
2/23 This yarn really pics up color. Twice now I have had to pull out because the yarn looks dirty. The first time I thought it was my hands so I have been washing my hands before knitting. Today it got black again and I realized it was by cloths. I wear black and I am pretty sure that the black is getting picked up from either my pants or my jacket.
So I will now have a towel on my lap when i am working and hopefully I won’t have this problem anymore.
I spent 5 hours taking out and re- knitting :(
2/22 I have finished the first section. Through row 84. I’m going to put on a life line at row 84. I have had to take out rows and the yo k2 section was easy enough to pull out and get back on the needles. (I use a size 0 to pick up the stitches after pulling out. Makes it a piece of cake). But the next section has more going on so life lines here I come!!
2/17 I am so excited to start this veil project for my daughter in law to be
I knitted 2 different swatches from different yarns. That gave me a chance to get the beginning cast on down. Very fiddly for a few rows.
The swatch of this yarn turned out beautiful with lost of drape and shine.
I knit the first few rows with size 4 needles then changed to 5 for a few rows and then to size 6. Not sure if I will go up to size 7 or not.
