Attempting to create an adult garment based on a childhood jumper which saw me and my brother through many years of use. Named after my grandparents’ house on the Isle of Man where the picture inwhich I’m wearing the original was taken. It was requested by first spawn. His birthday is in about 10 days. Hmmmm.
In the spirit of “adulthood” the white is transmuted to pale grey and the red to wine to detract from any possible patriotic interpretations.
Unsure whether to do all-over patterned raglan (as original) or raglan with plain sleeves and patterned front and back or attempt a variant on a yoke. Will find out when I get there, in theory. For now doing the bottom-up grunt work.
14 Feb - during bottom-up grunt work (13” up the body so far) decided to do patterned front and back with plain set-in sleeves. But not going to steek, oh no. Flat-knit sections of topness to be seamed. And another decision - going to knit the sleeves two-at-a-time - one inside the other. Oh yes.

So the last update was more than a year and a month ago, at which point I had finished and joined the body and arms. Having started the colourwork I was really unhappy with the high visibility of the stranding, where it was caught at the back. So I stopped, and the poor thing spent a year in a project bag on the floor of my study.
Now I have worked out how to do the almost totally invisible “double knitting” stranding technique for mutantly long floats so I ripped back to the body-arms join and started the stranding again. It’s fantastic. I’ll put links to the resources I used when the jumper’s done - racing knitting to Christmas at the moment!

Oh dear. Five years??? Time certainly flies. This really must get finished ASAP.

Ok, ASAP = 16 months. But as a result of the recipient’s gentle persuasion (aka shaming and nagging) it is now done. Bet he never wears it!
