MODS: Random stripes rather than the rather regular ones towards the end of the slip-stitch section instructions; to get maximum size did a section in the “decay” pattern with the contrast yarn; ended with main colour garter stitch border.
I fell in love with the black-and-white version of this pattern as soon as I saw it and, as luck would have it, happened to have these two colours of jitterbug in my (possibly world-beating) stash. Holiday knitting for my retreat - which requires a journey of about 10 hours to get to. Plenty of quiet time!

At 132 sts remaining: mc - 77g cc 130g.
Not going to follow pattern’s regular stripes from this point but vary as the fancy takes me.

155 sts - 53g, 116g

170 sts. 31g main colour remaining, 108g of contrast. Going down a needle size (because of the openness of the fabric) and going to work the decay pattern from Christopher Salas’s Decay shawl using the contrast colour. Hoping the result will be attractive and in harmony with the rest of the shawl.
November 4, 2018
Worked the decay pattern up to 210 sts at which point one row was taking about 2g yarn. 15g variegated yarn left. Changed back to large needle and dark yarn for garter st edge.
November 5, 2018
17 rows of solid garter stitch edging with 18th being the cast off row. 6g remaining.
Blocking. Depth at point 22” / 56cm; short edge 40” / 102cm; middle edge 54” / 137cm; length across top 84” / 214cm
Yes, I love love love this in all its random glory.
