Notes

I was still uh…. celebrating the new year when I cast on so there’s about 10 more stitches than called for partying_faceclinking_glasses

did a provisional cast on as I’m planning a turned hem, so k 12 rounds even then purled 1 round, then 1x1 rib…..& that’s when I found out I’d cast on an odd number of stitches upside_down_face so I just left it with the first and last stitches of the round as adjacent knit stitches woman-shrugging I’ll figure it out later

unlike my lace twist stitch argyle headband, I think the repeat for this is 14sts (instead of 12+1), so after about 40g I realized the lace potion of the hat was turning out way too big, snapped a photo then ripped the whole thing back & cast on again - with the correct stitch count this time upside_down_face

then!

frickin decreases as written left me with over 30 stitches & felt all wrong & I was already frustrated by the pattern not being charted, & the website that kept loading weird things that would cause the text to lift or fall so I’d lose my place1 & this business was the last straw so I decided to rip it back bc by that point it was stupid & I needed it Right

so found a lifesaver (linked up over there point_right) & reknit. again.

grr

78g

notes from queue: have all that WotA sport that would be Great for this (in those Jewel tones as holiday gifts? just saying)….(use that fairytale raspberry one, it should be almost but not quite 100g - much less if you skip/alter that 5” 1x1 rib of insanity)

update march 2023: finally got around to adding a satin lining - decided to gift it to a curly haired friend for her birthday this year & the wool would sap those strands dry!

re: working with the satin: it was so scary sweat_smile my serger mangled the slippery fabric so I quick changed my plan to instead work french seams using tissue paper in an attempt stabilize the shift… it was a success! but I needed plenty of self-peptalks & a drink of courage. then to set it into the brim, I used a weird zig zaggy hand stitch that I don’t know the name of, maybe herringbone?… herringbone hand?…. herringbone catch stitch? anyway, it’s in there, looks good, wears really nice & feels great on the head ok_hand mission accomplished.

oh ps, this took third place (to my own other hats) in the 2022 jax fair grin

  1. i ought to have just charted it up by hand not been aggravated
