i guess it’s the year of crochet for me? i feel like that’s all i’ve been doing lately!
made to fit the No. 2.5 can, used a generic dc flat circle for the base - using MC the first time, but as I got to the end of the ball, I realized I didn’t have enough for the number of scale rounds I wanted… so I ripped back almost a week’s worth of work and started all over again using CC & then worked a round of sc tbl after changing to MC before beginning crocstitch.
ran low again about half way through the final scale round so I ripped that back to the scale round before, omitted the plain sc round, abbreviated the V-stitch round (made the V-stitch in place over/joining the round below, chained 1 or 2, dc in the middle-ish, twice, chained again, then the next V) & made smaller, pointier scales (4dc, ch2, 4dc) than the rest. finished with 1 round sc in MC to get correct stitch count again before switching to CC.
the pattern didn’t give enough detail, and the provided link doesn’t click through, so I consider the whole thing frustratingly lacking. and yet I stuck with it bc I’m a stubborn jerk
went with a black beak to play up the comment my spouse made that it was looking like dragon fruit (& not clash with these neons )
one sheet of craft felt perfectly fits the interior circumference of this size tin so I just cut to height & whip stitched it to the owl body at the appropriate height. (actually, I got lazy & didn’t secure this. I want to give it some usage before deciding whether that step is necessary)
had a cork coaster that’s perfect for the inside bottom of the tin to protect from clangs when dropping in tools or to cushion said tools upon impact
big eye circles out of CC, white felt patches, then smaller white felt circles with glitter tulle yoyos around them, black fabric yoyos as pupils, pinked edge black felt fabric as…. idk what to call these on actual owls, for this one I’ll call it emphasis
the beak is also in that same black fabric (upcycled from an old men’s dress shirt for many things now) after eyeballing the shape on scrap paper & checking the look, I attempted a 3D effect by making kind of a chubby V shape so there was a dart going down the top half of the beak seems fine. this was pinned into place while the whole lot was on the tin, then removed from the structure for easier stitching.
pretty sure it was 39g pink & 33g green
altogether about 190 yds of these two not-very-similar-weight yarns
notes from queue: color inspo idea? https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Tatifa/crocodile-stitch-...
except i used up all the babygold baby bee stuff at last on my sunflowers cowl, & something tells me that naturallycaron.com stuff just isn’t going to be able to stand up to the hot pink
oh, what about that neon green simply soft?
