Notes

Important to read all notes!!!!

About the yarn: You will love it or hate it! Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable is a beautiful colored yard that mimics a hand dyed and hand spun wool yarn. It is very important to match skeins and dye lots when possible. Like a hand dyed yarn the colors very from skein to skein even in the same dye lot. $5 verses $32-$37 per skein for real hand dyed wool is worth the little extra effort it takes to work with this yarn.

This yarn is not for the beginner. As soon as the yarn is worked it gets it’s wool texture. It takes time and patience to unravel. It has to be done slowly and stitch by stitch. So, know how to work your pattern before using this yarn and make sure the yarn is the right one for the pattern. This is not sock yarn. So, do not try to use it for socks. I did not have the problems that some other reviewers mentioned about this yarn. I was very please with this yarn. I do not have a problem with yarns splitting unless I am working too tight or working with the wrong size hook for the yarn or pattern.

It is a 4 medium yarn but feels lighter. Red Hart suggest using a J hook. I used a L hook.

I put this yarn in a washing machine on delicate and in the dryer on delicate. It washed up just fine.

If using the lace weight wool, hand dyed, it would cost upwards of $120 dollars to make this wrap.

About the pattern:

Print out the two row charts that are with pattern and have a pencil handy to mark off rows. I even labeled the columns were I needed to increase and decrease a stitch or both.

The wrap is suppose to be lacy. Work very loosely and/or go up a hook size or more like I did.
I did not like the foundation stitch. To me it was too thick. I used a regular chain to start.

How to close the eyelet:

I used a thicker yarn than pattern calls for so the eyelet holes were too big. I closed up the eyelets by weaving my hook through the last single crochet of the short row and inside edge of single crochets in the short row (7 loops or holes weaved through), at the bottom single crochet, yarn over and pull yarn all the way through with out going through loop on hook (pull and tighten slightly), yo pull through both loops on hook (sc completed) then continue to the next un-worked sc of the long row. Check count of stitches in row. If you are off a stitch this is most likely where the problem is.

This pattern is easy once you get the hang of it. Counting stitches can make this project time consuming.

I stopped after row 38. I finished the outer edge with a scallop pattern to keep edge from rolling. Added single crochet to inside edge for a nicer finish. The inside edge still rolled up. See following for fix which fixes this edge also.

P.S. I am happier now after I gathered the inside edge to shorten the length of shawl. Before the fix it would not wrap right for the size. Now it does. I like the way it gathers around the neck also.

How I did it:

I went back and on the inside edge, of long straight side, starting from bottom, I single crochet picking up two stitches each time. Where the curve at the neck starts I picked up 3 stitches for every single crochet until end of row. Turned, I singled crochet until end of curve. Turned, singled crochet back until end of row finished off. I added a loop at the corner of this row (Narrow tip of shawl). Adding a large button where the curve ends and the straight part or row starts. Hope to post pictures soon. Looks and fits so much nicer now!
