edit: I’ve killed these socks by accidentally washing them too hot. Only fit for doll’s feet now, and the colours are all bland… Had to throw them away. boohooh
Quite a quick knit this, actually! I’ve got small feet and wide calfs so I’ve made some alterations. If I were to knit this project again I would change some other things too, such as knitting through front loop in stead of back loop on a yarn over for crisper lace holes, and continuing the 1k1p pattern on the topside of the toe, perhaps substitute a short-row heel rather than a heel flap (flap heels tend to be too big for me).
So, I loved this sock but made a ton of alterations to fit better, here goes (probably not much use to anyone but myself, for future reference):
General:
- started with 2,75 mm needle
- two pattern A repeats on the leg (long enough for me)
- changed to 2,25 mm needles at the start of the heel flap.
Heel:
- heel-flap: I only did 10 repeats of row 3 and 4
- turning the heel flap: as written in pattern, 21 sts remain
Gusset:
- picking up for the gusset: knit 12 sts + 1 extra pick up in stead of 15+1 on needle 2 and 4 (needle 1: 21 sts, needle 2: 13, needle 3: 36 sts, needle 4: 13)
- start of the gusset: follow pattern, except decrease two stitches on needle 1 in round 2 and 3 (ssk, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog).
- gusset: Repeat round 3 and 4, 7 times (no more decreases on needle 1) 4 sts remain on needle 2 and 4 each.
- remainder of gusset: follow pattern except work eight stitches from needle 1 onto needle 4
Foot:
- foot: knit 9 remaining stiches form needle 1 and the 3 remaining stitches from needle 2 onto one needle, this is needle 3 (needle 1: 36/37 sts, see chart B, needle 2: 12 sts, needle 3: 12 sts)
- work pattern as set, 23 rounds (ending on row 20 of chart B)
Toe:
after two rounds the stitch count is: 32 on neelde 1, 24 (12+12) on needles 2 and 3
round 3 + 4 first time knitted: decrease two stitches at the beginning (ssk) and end (k2tog) of needle 1, knit alls ts on needles 2 and 3). 48 sts remaining (24 on needle 1, 12 on needle 2, 12 on needle 3
repeat round 3 and 4 as written in pattern, 6 times (24 sts remaining)
repeat round 4 another 3 times (12 sts remaining)
By these alterations the heel is shorter, the foot is tighter and the toe is shorter. made a perfect fit for my small feet!
