I planned to shorten the sleeves very slightly and perhaps shorten the length a bit, as I’m shorter than average.
However, when I did a body-fit check, I’m finding that I may need a longer border than what the original designer envisioned. I’ve received two additional balls from a fellow Raveler (Thanks, paws knit!).
Definitely too short -- hits just below my waist and I much prefer hip-length.
Adding a knitted on band with a I-cord edge to add about 7.5” as follows:
- provisional cast on
- 3-stitch I-Cord free edge, K2, 1 set of k yo k2tog k, K3, then the pattern from the sleeves with P K P instead of P2 between the two halves, then K2tog w/edge stitch from body of main sweater. Work back across the same as middle of sleeve pattern, with K P K separating the halves, and doing a second set of k yo k2 tog k, then ending slip 3 (which will form the I-cord on the next row)
- with a contrasting yarn, knitted 4-5 rows on each end without cabling, but doing the lace ladder and keeping the knit-purl pattern, bound off.
- following the contrasting yarn, grafted the ends together, then removed the contrasting yarn
- misjudged the cable row count slightly, so I have, in effect, an extra two plain rows, but probably no one except me will notice
