Christmas night, mom asleep upstairs, and all my other knitting done, I decided to knit some Christmas hats for more of mom's decorations. First up was a cute little chipmunk woodcarving. His head measured 5.5" around, and at 18sts/4", I went with a 24 st CO.
The hat was simple - a few rows of 1x1 rib in white, then stockinette tube, decreasing every 4 rows, with a simple white pom pom on top.
The hat has ear holes. I just bound off a couple of stitches, and cast them back on on the next round :)
For the snowman hat, whose head measured 6.5" around, I went with more of a beanie, decreasing faster, and moreso at the end. I think I cast on 28 or 30 for this guy.
Daylight shots, the day after Christmas! I set these up the previous night, while mom was asleep, hoping to surprise her. Two days later, she still hadn't noticed them. They're right in the middle of the room, separating the dining and living rooms, but she never looked!
I finally told mom she hadn't noticed the surprises I'd left, and she went on all around looking, and finally found them, and then couldn't believe she'd missed them for 2 days :)
You can really see the little ear holes in this shot.
Somewhere around the 27th or 28th of December, I decided the otter needed a hat, too. His head was so aerodynamic, it wouldn't really fit on top, but I made it to fit, and just slid it over his whole face. Mom noticed this one the next day :)
I forget the CO count, but it's just like the chipmunk's hat, except 2x2 rib (instead of 1x1), and obviously much larger. It's basically a big stocking cap.
On the way home from my visit, mom dropped me off at the Knoxville airport, and right away I saw these guys. They reminded me of mom's bear statue, and the hats I put on them.
