I didn't manage to get a good picture of the final sweater, after the rush of finishing it for Christmas, but I did take a video. This is a still frame from that.
This is a frame from one of the 2 short videos mom sent me from her phone, showing me how one of her favorite old sweaters came out of a decade in storage disintegrating.
I made these screen grabs of mom's videos after deciding I had enough info to [possibly] recreate this disintegrating sweater. This one, where she held it up to the sunlight for a moment, helped me figure out yarn weight and gauge.
On December 13th, 2019 - a few days or so after mom sent me videos of her disintegrating sheep and hearts sweater - on a whim, I searched "sheep hearts sweater" on Google Images, and somehow immediately found it on Poshmark.
There was a small gallery of images, and I realized that between these, and the 2 short videos mom had sent me, I had enough to reverse engineer and chart out the pattern.
This image helped me see the overall layout, as mom's videos were just her flipping the sweater around outside, showing me how the threads had begun disintegrating, and never gave me a clear view of the whole thing.
Closeup of the heart made it easy to chart.
Closeup of the sheep helped me chart it out, but also showed me the white yarn for the wool had a lot of bloom to it.
It was great having a closeup of the tag from the Poshmark listing, but it confused me.
I cast on and swatched on December 15, 2019. This was on Hiya Hiya metal DPNs, size US 8. I got 18sts/24rows in 4"x4".
Finished swatch. I always swatch. You should swatch.
37g remaining in the 50g ball of KnitPicks Comfy™ Worsted.
I didn't end up using the previous swatch. I switched to the circulars I intended to use - ChiaoGoo - and did another whole swatch. I like swatching. This was December 16, the day after the first swatch.
The Hiya Hiyas I didn't use. I think the second gauge (17/23) was with Chiagoo US 8s, possibly 9s, but I'm pretty sure the last gauge (15/10 - note the 2"; I got lazy) was Chiaogoo US 10 circs, as I intended to make this looser, and to meet my self-made chart's gauge. I need to document better.
After some stockinette in black, I got to the legs of the sheep on the bottom row. I decided to go with tiny bobbins of the red Knit Picks Comfy™ Worsted.
Finally got to the sheep bodies, and it was time to use this super squishy, fluffy yarn. This was December 17th, 2019.
So many tails to weave in later.
Sheep feets and bellies, taking shape.
Closeup of my sheep, and one of the hearts. It all worked out! This was December 18th, 2019, 3 days after starting.
The entire front is done, December 19th, 2019. I used a random sweater on Ravelry to see how to chart the decreases around the neck, and charted it out for myself, and it worked.
Here's the back panel - just stockinette, with some neck shaping, IIRC. I'm seaming at this point, December 20th, and I'm no longer in Los Angeles, but at my dad's place in S. New Jersey, visiting for Christmas.
