Here's the snowflake pattern I made. I just took the hat pattern from Julianna's Selbu beanie (see my projects), and reworked the chart from Selbu roses to snowflakes. The yellow bar is a partially transparent layer I used to help me keep track of where I was.

I wish there was a bit more contrast, but I also kind of like the icy feel.

Jocelynn's hat ended up quite a bit shorter than Julianna's. I think after switching the invisible cast on over to 2x2 for ribbing, I forgot to rib, and went straight into the chart. Oh well! I think it still fit.

Notes

I cast on 54 sts (10sts/4”21”=52.5sts, rounded up), and did a lot of stretching out floats as I knit.

I had wanted to knit things for the whole family, but knitting is slow. I figured I’d just make stuff for all the kids, but I have a good number of little cousins. It turned out that pretty much all the families were away, though, so I just knit hats for the 2 who were still around, Jocelyn & Juliana, both in high school. Their mom came by the house at one point, just as dad and I were discussing which colors out of the many I’d bought would be best for them, and she agreed with our choices. Go team!
