Taking Sides Crochet Cardigan
Snazzy!
It was quick work to use some of the yarn scraps to add in a quick closure loop, and sew on the button.
I forgot to bring the cardi to Joann, the night before the Thanksgiving party, and they weren't open on Thanksgiving, so I had to use pics on my phone, and chose the 7 best buttons I could find. I'd actually envisioned a basket weave style, but ultimately this one won out against the garment.
When I made this at the end of March, it was just because I thought the baby in the cardi on the ball band was adorable. Flash forward to an impending Thanksgiving party, and I realized it was the perfect gift for my hosts' 1-year old daughter, but it still needed its button closure!
My big hand for scale (6' tall man).
That's the other ball I didn't need at all, the tails on the left, and the remaining ~2 yards on the right.
I cast on March 28, 2019.
I finished the 3 panels (body and 2 sleeves) in about 10 hours, a few of them while waiting somewhere in my truck.
I decided I didn't like how the sleeves turned out, so I frogged the first one.
Cast on a sleeve again from the frogged panel.
Much better looking, re-crocheted sleeve panel.
The other sleeve panel was also weird-looking. I think it grew toward one end.
Frogged second sleeve.
Re-crocheted second sleeve panel, matching up nicely with the first re-crocheted sleeve panel.
One sleeve panel is 18g.
The other sleeve panel is 19g.
Frogged the two picked up panels of the body, and in the process of frogging the main part.
Frogging the body.
Starting the body over from scratch.
Crocheting the 3 bits at the top. The first (left) is part of the main body. The next 2 sections (middle, right) are picked up with new yarn. I've done the middle one here, and the right one still isn't done.
Body done again with much better tension.
I sewed up the sleeve panels into tubes using a simple whip stitch. It worked out really well.
One sleeve attached to the body, the other seamed up, but not yet attached to the body.
Back of the cardigan, collar crocheted on.
