Notes

Mods: Ysolda Teague’s Tubular Cast On, rather than suggested (link in expanded comments); knitted the purl sts in CC, rather than in MC; 2 full repeats of Chart A following thumb gusset, followed by a decrease round of 4 sts dec over each row until the end of Chart A (photo of Chart A shows decreases); Kitchener Stitch to close final 12 sts of hand; pick up 19 remaining thumb sts and backwards cast-on 5 more in pattern; knit thumb for 1 full thumb chart, then dec 4 sts per round following Row 6 of thumb chart for 2 rows; Kitchener Stitch to close final 16 sts.

Aug 22/12: off to catch Ysolda Teague’s Tubular Cast On per lillerina’s Endpaper Mittens on YouTube and then it’s off to the races! I’ll be working these as full mitts, rather than fingerless.

Aug 25/12: I ended up working two more rounds of Chart A, then Chart A once more, modified to decrease one st on either side of the “purl” seam (which I’ve been knitting in CC) for each size (i.e. 4 dec per round). That resulted in a short gap which I Kitchener Stitched closed. After that, I charted the thumb so that I could accommodate a 5 st backward cast on on the hand-side and will hopefully be working on that tomorrow!

Aug 26/12: first mitt is finished! I’ve uploaded a photo of the chart I made for the thumb.

Aug 29/12: just the thumb of the second mitten left, then blocking!

Aug 30/12: all knitting was finished by the time I went to bed last night. I blocked today and am fortunate enough that these dried within hours. I love the result!

Dec 22/22: re-blocked these today with the specific intent of trying to get out a small rust stain and it came out with only a mild hand-scrub. Heritage Sock is a damn miracle. Also, wow these mitts are over a decade old! I still love them.
