Notes

Notes: c.o. 217 sts on US 10 as per my directions in the Chevron Baby Blanket, with a multiple of 24 sts plus 25 (not 15) sts

Aug 31/13: I’ve developed a rough stripe pattern for my interpretation of the Missoni-esque blanket. Insanely, my intent is to use up as much of my alpaca/camel scraps as possible while still working towards making a queen-sized blanket. Yep, I’m nuts.

Sep 1/13: I’ve categorized the yarn for this project under the “Traded/Gifted” tag so that I don’t consider it part of my available stash.

Sep 2/13: with the heaviest suggested gauge yarn I’ve got, I swatched 12 sts/4” (or 3 sts/1”) on US 8 needles. That’s the gauge I’m going to have to aim for with the rest of my alpaca/camel stash.

Aug 31/15: began winding yarn tonight. Assuming I work consecutive evenings, this should take a few nights.

Sep 1/15: huh. Aside from the previously-untouched skeins of yarn I’ve got, I finished winding yarn tonight. Go figger.

Sep 2/15: c.o. 207 sts. ~9g used in c.o.

Sep 3/15: poop. I miscounted and had to rip everything out, 3 rows in, last night. Also, it looks like I’m going to have to purchase more black alpaca to make this blanket resemble my plans for it.

Sep 4/15: got back on the horse last night and have managed to complete the first colour-change already. Have also had to fix an error in stitch counts a few rows down (had 22 sts in a particular section, instead of 24).

Sep 8/15: going to need to purchase more black and/or dark grey alpaca to finish this blanket off, so -- as of last night -- I’ve taken off the needle tips, added a size tag and capped the ends for now. Update: ordered 6x100g skeins of black, 1x100g skein of “heathered” black and 1x100g skein of hot pink from WEBS.

Sep 21/15: yarn from WEBS arrived today. Even including the customs fees, I saved money.

Oct 4/15: measured today and am just over 3’ in length so far.

Oct 5/15: changed the project name to reflect what Kara referred to the textural sensation of touching this blanket as being like

Oct 7/15: cut free and ripped back on the more dominant of the two sections of Mitchell & CIA green -- it was a lot of work! I’ve since begun knitting up from the tonal purple in bright pink. I might work a longer section this time. Also, yesterday is when I stopped by Romni (following a very strong job interview!) to pick up that gorgeous skein of Chicory-esque yarn on discount.

Oct 9/15: I’ve been knitting up from the first use of Copihue and it occurred to me today that I’m going to have to do a reverse Kitchener Stitch to attach the purl row of this section to the knit row of the blanket -- ugh. Ah well, I’m otherwise making good progress.

Oct 11/15: after many, many hours, I’ve stitched the two halves of the blanket together. Goodbye, muddy green! Sections of Kitchener Stitch (especially at the beginning) are tighter than they ought to be, so I’m glad that I stitched things together in an all-concealing black region. The working yarn was long enough that it was coming unplied by the end. Stretches of yarn pulled clean apart, but I was able to finish the stitching without trying to graft in new yarn.

Oct 13/15: I daresay I’m in the home stretch. I’ve just got the hot pink to use up and that’ll stashbust all of the vibrant camelid yarn from my stash. I keenly suspect I’ll use the muddier camelid yarns as mitten linings this year, especially what with Kara specifically requesting “Kitten, Dead” mittens.

Oct 15/15: bound off and (hopefully) de-linting in the dryer!

Oct 16/15: I didn’t care for the way the garter stitch border at the top flared out, so I ripped out the bind-off and re-knit using US9 needles, taking care to be less slack on the bind-off row in particular. Much better! Final photos up!
