I used 142g per front
Dec 28/12: got gauge when lightly stretching the suggested p2, k2 rib using US11 needles. Any larger and the resultant fabric with the suggested yarn would be too “sheer”. I’m using Magic Loop to do this because I don’t have US11 DPNs. Made it to Round 16 tonight and am going to have to buy another circ tomorrow or use cable connectors to get my cable(s) to hold all the stitches.
Jan 1/13: Happy New Year! I ended up purchasing a 60” cable from Knitter’s Attic (yay! they were in stock!) and Magic Loop-ed to 92 sts, then cast off on 3 sides in knit, worked k2tog across the final side, and began working the back in stockinette stitch. The plan is to work about 2/3 up the back, work a few rows of 2x2 rib, then p/u and knit in stockinette on the top edge, to about 1/3 of the way down. Finally, working in 2x2 rib at the end, then seam up the sides to -- hopefully -- leave enough space to insert a pillow through the ribbed openings. Update: used 210g on one cushion cover.
Jan 6/13: just have seaming left to do on the second cushion cover, blocking, and button attachment. Part of yesterday was given over to the task of making an afterthought buttonhole (went surprisingly well!) and sewing on the button for the first cushion cover. Update: wet-blocking has commenced! Mods posted above.
Jan 8/13: second cushion cover dry, button sewn on, pictures taken. I love the look of these.
Aug 14/13: it broke my heart to have to unravel these beautiful covers, but the yarn simply doesn’t wear well. There was profuse pilling, the fabric picks up stray fluff and detritus as if magnetic and the covers were too small for the new pillow forms we got. I think I might end up using the re-acquired yarn to make Kate Davies’ Owls. If I do, I think I’ll overdye the yarn first. I’m thinking of a golden yellow.
