Notes

Feb 6/21: pattern purchased today.

Feb 7/21: c.o. yesterday and completed everything but the thumb of the left mitten. This is a beautiful colourwork pattern, but definitely not for beginners -- things like how to make the thumb gusset requires assumed knowledge (’though I’m sure more intrepid knitters can Google things satisfactorily). I decided not to bother with the picot edge, working a purl round there instead, and I made a crocheted provisional c.o. to start, since I may want to attach my lining to it directly.

Feb 8/21: completed the hand of the right mitten today, so I have just the thumbs and lining to work on now. Surprised at how quickly these are knitting up! Also, currently have 50g of Rios remaining, which is a little bonkers -- I can’t believe how little yarn has gone into these so far.

Feb 10/21: knitted up the thumbs yesterday, wove in ends, then began working the lining by putting the live sts from the provisional c.o.(s) on a needle, TAAT, and working 56 sts to the beginning of the thumb gusset, at which point I separated 50 sts for the hand, and worked M1L and M1R accordingly, every 4th round. I’m about half-done the thumb gussets now. I love how Unicorn Sneezes is complementing the Cian. Update: blocking now! The thumbs were completed by increasing to 24 sts total for each thumb, then knitting plain for 2-1/2”, working k2, k2tog for one round, k1, k2tog for the next round, and k2tog for the final round before Kitchener St closed. The hand was worked by c.o. 6 sts under the thumb, knitting plain to match the exterior length, working 2 dec/side every round to 28 sts total, then Kitchener St closed. I didn’t have to use any additional yarn for the lining, as I feared I might have to. Yay! I’ve got photos of the lining being knitted up to add to this project.

Feb 11/21: these are nearly completely dry and are lovely! All photos up. I used the smaller knitting needle for the lining.
