Notes: c.o. 420 sts; work double seed/moss stitch for 10 rows; begin lace repeat, PM after ea repeat (24 x 10 row repeats); work 55 lace repeats; work double seed/moss stitch for 9 rows; b.o. in rib
Using the version I made for Layla as my guide, and Casper’s twin mattress dimensions of 38” x 75”, this s/b about 24 repeats (Aug 20/20 calculation: 414 sts) wide x 84 repeats long, using up about 5 lbs of yarn (hers was 640 sq. in., this will be 8208 sq. in.; 12.825 times as much yarn will be needed). I expect I’ll place the order this week for 5 lbs (10 tubes!) of Peacock in DK weight. Aug 6/20 update: order placed, have to wait for shipping quote to see if I want to arrange a pick-up. Aug 19/20 update: on my way in the next few minutes to pick up the order! Aug 22/20 update: looks like I did a 6 st border all around last time, so I’ll do the same again for this one, making my actual st count 408+12 or 420 sts wide. Aug 30/20 update: looked up two-strand long tail c.o. last night. Likely to c.o. soon.
Aug 31/20: c.o. yesterday and just started the lace portion last night. I’ve got about 2” of double seed/moss stitch as my border. Also, am using my smallest size interchangeables (instead of the US0 I used for the baby blanket) because I didn’t want this to be too tight. I’m hoping a few rows will prove my judgement call a smart one, because it’s a lot of work to have gone this far already!
Sep 1/20: 1-1/2 repeats into the lace as of last night.
Sep 3/20: just began the fourth repeat last night.
Sep 7/20: I’ve had to fix mistakes 3 times now. To do so, I’m isolating the 8-st “chunk” that needs to be repaired and using DPNs to hold sts as I unravel “down”, then knitting back up in the 8st chunk. I think I’ve gotten this last one down, but it’s hard to tell, so I’m probably going to reknit it again just to be sure.
Sep 8/20: finished the first cone of yarn last night. Was able to work the lower hem and about 8-1/2 lace repeats with one cone.
Sep 11/20: YAY! 12 repeats in!
Sep 14/20: likely to hit the 20% mark today.
Sep 19/20: finished the second cone of yarn last night and -- because Matt and ‘Tuna will be away for most of today, I’m likely to hit the 25% completion mark.
Sep 20/20: yay! Hit the 1/4 mark last night!
Sep 25/20: just got to the 1/3 mark earlier this evening. Another full repeat to go until I’m at 35%.
Sep 27/20: had a quick “measure” of this blanket against my body last night, into my 4th cone of yarn, and it’s about 4’ long. I might end up stopping well before I thought I would. Found a mattress company posting twin bed dimensions at 38” x 75”, so I might knit to 6-1/2’.
Sep 29/20: going to want to measure this today, as I suspect I’m well past the approaching-40%-done mark. Update: okay, so I’ve actually got about 5-1/2’ of width and currently 44” of length, which puts me closer to 1/2 done.
Oct 4/20: about 5’ in length now, and just begun my 5th cone.
Oct 8/20: measured yesterday and discovered that the border and 30 repeats took me to 3-1/2’. So, for the 7-ish’ blanket I want to have by the time I’m done, I need to work up 60 repeats. As of this morning, I’m 44 repeats and 2 rows in. 8 rows until I’m 3/4 done!
Oct 9/20: cracked the 75% done mark yesterday! If all goes well, I should be done next week!
Oct 13/20: used up my 5th cone of yarn last night.
Oct 14/20: hit 52 repeats last night and think this might be long enough that I’ll stop working lace repeats at 55 of them. I’ll have to re-measure once I get there, to see how I feel about stopping at that point.
Oct 16/20: measured @ 55 repeats yesterday and was at nearly 7’ of length. Decided to begin working moss/double seed st border. Should be done today! Update: done! Going to toss it in the wash tonight.
