Contemplated between these socks and Twisted, but I didn’t want to knit cuff-down so I’m compromising between the two. Reversing the rib to be 3 purl and 1 twisted slipped knit stitch. Trying some toe shaping since there will be left and right socks and my big toes are long. (CO 24 instead of 20; 4 rounds are outside-edge-only increases, spaced evenly among the regular toe increases.) Increased total stitch count from 56 to 60 at ball of foot (and continuing) for better fit; 32 sole/28 instep.
Definitely cannot go directly from Arch increases to Heel Turn as the pattern suggests, at least if you work only 15 rounds before increases begin, as it says. It’s much much much too short! I worked one extra set of increases (8 total new ribs) as I have a high instep, and am working 5 rounds more keeping in pattern. 6 wraps each side for the heel. Still feels a bit short but…
Managed the pithy heel instructions without too much puzzling, though I cannot understand why “heel pattern” is up at the front of the pattern instead of under “Heel Turn” where you actually need it. The leg pattern setup and working (for first sock especially) is not terribly clear. But if you’re okay with winging things, this pattern will work.
Adding calf shaping. Kicks in after 12 rounds (as does leg pattern; forgot to start it earlier). 3 branches outer edge, three inner, three outer. Cuff is 1x1.
5/9/17 finally finishing, after many errors frogged back, a cuff I didn’t like, and hands being out of commission for months and months!
