Cowl

This is not a pattern for a complete beginner as it incorporates post stitches and puff stitches and third loop half-double crochet.

The cable pattern looks complex, and the initial read through may seem wordy, but follow it step by step and it actually breaks down into a logical and easily memorised two row repeat.

My gauge was slightly smaller than stated in the pattern, even though I went up to a 6mm hook. It has produced a lovely squishy fabric though and the finished cowl is about 5.25 inches wide x 32 inches long with 24 pattern repeats between the ribbed ends.

Hat

I made the cowl first and knew the hat would be too small if I used the same yarn. I did use Stylecraft Special DK again, but also used a 4ply yarn held double with the DK. I stuck with the 6mm hook, resulting in a denser fabric, but it does fit me.
