This CAL starts on 05-Jan-2019. Two practice squares are provided to get you familiar with the technique and to determine gauge.

A formula is given to calculate how much yarn you will need.

I did a swatch with a G(4mm) hook and determined that I am getting 5 dc per yard of fabric. According to the formula, I will need over 3000 yds of each color. There are 2 colors. Going to drop to a smaller hook because recommended gauge with worsted is 7 dc per yard.

Gauge:
#4 with G (4mm) is 5 dc per yard
#4 with F (3.75) is 5 dc per yard

OK, got this started with a G(4mm) hook and a Caron Cake #4 yarn. I am getting 8 dc = 4”, which is the gauge in the pattern. 1st 2 rows plus foundation row is done. I used the foundation row instead of ch to start the piece. Pattern does not show how many blocks should be in the 1st row, so I had some trouble getting started. Project is about 52” across.

2019-Jan-15: Used up the 1st 7 oz ILTY skein. There’s a little left of the Caron Cake, but I don’t think it was a full skein when I started it. Project is about 13” high.

2019-Jan-19: Part 2 is released.
2019-Jan-23: Finished part 2. Almost 30” high.
