It’s no secret I love making cowls. So, I was looking for a pattern that would help me make a few more baby steps to the world of knitting and this one looked promising. I got to learn the provisional cast on, moss stitch, p1 tbl, k1 tbl and practice some more on k2tog. And I will have to learn how to graft using Kitchener stitch in order to join the two ends. I really like the wool as well, very soft and with a beautiful warm orange color.
So far it’s going fine, the combination of eyelets and fabric with moss stitch is very interesting.
Update 17 February
This is going very well. It keeps getting better every day. The wool is simply lovely, it’s going to be a beautiful, warm cowl someday! We spent a great Saturday night together along with a cup of tea and I got to do many repeats. I think I will probably do the same thing tonight as well, :-)
Update 18 February
One of three skeins is almost finished and the cowl is ~ 40cm.
Update 28 April
After many, many adventures, a lot of ripping and time, the knitting part of the cowl is done! Even after all that, though, I still love how it looks and feels. All I have to do now is practise the grafting technique and apply it on the cowl. Already started!
Update 29 April
Yes, it is done! After spending a couple of hours practising the kitchener stitch (Luz-de-Luna was again so kind and helpful, she sent me a video with great instructions for it and you can watch it here, it’s by knitwitch), I proceeded to apply it on the cowl and it (only) took me 1 hour and 20’. And now the cowl is stitched and done! All needles are off, all the lifelines have been removed, I only need to block it! It’s beautiful and I’m so happy it’s done and I can’t wait to block it and take some decent photos of it. I cannot thank Luz enough for helping me with this cowl, for putting up with my frustration, for helping me while Skyping and encouraging me whenever I needed it. Luz, I love you.
Update 19 May
This is the final update for the Casu cowl (well, I may do one more when I give it to someone and maybe put some more photos). It’s knitted, washed, blocked and photographed. And I think it looks great! It grew slightly after blocking and now it is ~1.40m, which I think is a great size for a cowl. Knitting it was certainly an experience, I learned a lot and I look forward to seeing it worn, it will keep someone very warm! :-)
Update 15 July
This is Veronica, with my cowl on! She says it’s very soft and warm! :-)
