Today, exactly one year after the pattern was published, I started another Setting Sun. This time the yarn is slightly heavier, a lovely alpaca, and I’m using a 5mm hook, instead of a 4.5mm I used the first time. So far it’s going great, the pattern is pretty easy to follow, pretty mindless. And that actually helped me as I was crocheting it while Skyping with my best friend in the universe, Luz-de-Luna and she was reading to me Gianni Rodari’s Favole al telefono (“Fairy Tales Over the Phone”, 1962)! She is amazing, isn’t she?

Update 1 July
This is going very well. It’s already bigger than my first effort with the pattern and I love it. The yarn is superb, so light and beautiful and the colour is wonderful and changes a lot, depending on the light, from omelette-y yellow to sunny yellow. I’ve knitted it here in London, while having coffee with fellow knitters in Veria, Greece and at Luz’s home, on the sofa across from her, next to cans of ice tea and with a beautiful cat in the room. So, it already has a great story behind it.

Update 23 July
It’s finished! I adore this pattern, I love how the lacy parts open up after blocking and it becomes so much better. Blocking is truly magical. It turned out slightly bigger (about 1m wide and 50cm deep) than my first effort (as I wanted) and now I need someone to help me take some photos and demonstrate how it looks. The colour is wonderful and I love how light yet warm it is.
