Notes

A lesson in short rows, not yet mastered.
Watched countless YouTube videos to get the knack of the wrap & turns, but still feels like I am missing something. If you look at the left side of the eye shapes, you can see a weird extra twist to the stitches I wrapped & then picked up…
I found this video helpful to pick up the wraps:
https://youtu.be/-xaz41JTkLc
& this one too:
https://youtu.be/_PAADqkCjrg
I tried the German short rows technique, but found that to be even more bumpy…(see my red knit area)
This video shows how to do German short rows:
https://youtu.be/i_6Pjl20zKA
& this one shows how to alter a pattern to do German short rows:
http://youtu.be/_xvi0mCP_Ao

I rewrote the directions with both methods:
DIRECTIONS Cast on 43 stitches using long-tail cast on COLOR A
Knit one row COLOR A (plus I knit 2 more rows)
Row 1 (RS): knit COLOR A
Row 2: knit COLOR A
Row 3: knit COLOR B

Row 4: German short rows:
P13,* turn, sl1 with yarn in front (sl1wyif), ds, k9, turn, sl1wyif, ds, p8, turn, sl1wyif, ds, k7, turn, sl1wyif, ds, p6, turn sl1wyif, ds, k5, turn and p20* …

OR Row 4:standard wrap & turn:note: pick up and purl the wraps (or double stitches) as you meet them
p12, wrap & turn (w&t), k8, w&t, p7, w&t, k6, w&t, p5, w&t, k4, w&t, p20, end last repeat p9 instead of 20

Row 5: knit, picking up and knitting the wraps (or double stitches) as you meet them COLOR A
Row 6: knit COLOR A
Row 7: knit COLOR A
Row 8: knit COLOR A
Row 9: knit COLOR B

Row 10: Row ten for German Short rows:COLOR B
P6, turn, sl1wyif, ds, K6, turn,
P5, turn, sl1wyif, ds, k5, turn,
P20,turn, sl1wyif, ds, K9,turn,
sl1wyif, ds, P8, turn,

sl1wyif, ds, P21, turn,
sl1wyif, ds, K9, turn,
sl1wyif, ds P8, turn,
sl1wyif, ds, K7, turn,
sl1wyif, ds, P6 turn,
sl1wyif, ds, K5,turn,
sl1wyif, ds, P16.
At end of row, turn,
K6, turn,
sl1wyif, ds, P6, turn,
K5,turn,
sl1wyif, ds, P5

OR Row 10:standard wrap & turn:note: pick up and purl the wraps as you meet them
p5, w&t, k5, turn, p4, w&t, k4, turn, p19, w&t, k8, w&t, p7, w&t, k6, w&t, p5, w&t, k4, w&t, p20, w&t, k8, w&t, p7, w&t, k6, w&t, p5, w&t, k4, w&t, p16, then at end of row,, turn, k5, w&t, p5, turn , k4, w&t, p4

Row 11: knit, picking up and knitting the wraps (or double stitches) as you meet them COLOR A
Row 12: knit COLOR A
Repeat rows 1-12 four times total, then knit one row (I knit 2 rows more) and bind off knitwise.
To use 2 colors, one option is to use a 2nd color on rows 3, 4, 9, and 10. Another option is to switch colors on rows 6 and 12.

Next time I will try a smaller needle size.

UPDATE:
Tried shadow wraps & like this best….take some practice, but look best.
