A lesson in short rows, not yet mastered.
Watched countless YouTube videos to get the knack of the wrap & turns, but still feels like I am missing something.If you look at the left side of the eye shapes, you can see a weird extra twist to the stitches I wrapped & then picked up…

I tried the German short rows technique, but found that to be even more bumpy…(see my red knit area)

I rewrote the directions with both methods:
DIRECTIONS Cast on 43 stitches using long-tail cast on COLOR A
Knit one row COLOR A (plus I knit 2 more rows)
Row 1 (RS): knit COLOR A
Row 2: knit COLOR A
Row 3: knit COLOR B
Row 4: German short rows:
P13,* turn, sl1 with yarn in front (sl1wyif), ds, k9, turn, sl1wyif, ds, p8, turn, sl1wyif, ds, k7, turn, sl1wyif, ds, p6, turn sl1wyif, ds, k5, turn and p20* …
OR Row 4:standard wrap & turn:note: pick up and purl the wraps (or double stitches) as you meet them
p12, wrap & turn (w&t), k8, w&t, p7, w&t, k6, w&t, p5, w&t, k4, w&t, p20, end last repeat p9 instead of 20
Row 5: knit, picking up and knitting the wraps (or double stitches) as you meet them COLOR A

Repeat rows 1-12 four times total, then knit one row (I knit 2 rows more) and bind off knitwise.
To use 2 colors, one option is to use a 2nd color on rows 3, 4, 9, and 10. Another option is to switch colors on rows 6 and 12.
Next time I will try a smaller needle size.

Tried shadow wraps & like this best….take some practice, but look best.
