Most important item I‘ve knit. Ever
Worn constantly, even at night, these have helped alleviate the intense wrist pain I have suffered from this year (starting with tendonitis in february, gotten by cutting hundreds of fabric squares with a dull-blade roller cutter).
Wearing both of them is comfortable and makes me keep warm markedly better than without them. But the most important part is wearing one on my right wrist, which prevents wrist pain when using the computer mouse, knitting or crafting. Wearing it while sleeping has proved crucial to the healing process, because I wake up in pain when not wearing it.
Pattern Modifications
- Not making mitts, but only cuffs (no hole for the thumb).
- Using only 3 colours, two handspun yarns and a commercial white sock yarn which will also form the ribbing (Colour Ain the pattern).
- Made the ribbing at both start and end longer, 14 rows.
- 8 pattern repeats.
- Seamed only the patterned part for a better fit near the elbow and the hand because of being longer, thus needing a bigger circumference.
Conclusion
Very nice item which just flies off the needles, it’s such a nice little pattern.
I even gave it the benefit of washing and blocking before seaming, and then tried my hand at mattress stitch according to my Knitting Tips and Tricks book, and I managed to, well, not make it look seamless, but to Not Fuck It Up Horribly.
I’m wearing it with pride as suggested in the pattern.
Fit
They were very snug at first and left me wondering if I should have knitted size M instead. But after some days of wearing them almost day and night, they have loosened up somehow and are very comfortable now. I don’t know if that’s because of the slipped stitch pattern, - just beware, don’t let the swatch fool you into making them too big.
At this stage of looseness I could have stitched them up completetely at the elbow end, but not at the hand end.
