Knit a square – help build a well

Our local knitting group Stitch ‘n’ Bitch is knitting an afghan blanket to raise funds for the AIWCC and FAWCO Target Water Project (Wells for Clean Water, Cambodia) to be raffled at the Welcome Back Brunch on 12th September 2012.

This project builds family wells - used by 3 families for a kitchen garden, cooking & drinking and personal hygiene; cost = $150 and field wells - used by 2 families for a kitchen garden, cooking & drinking, personal hygiene, and for irrigation. A field well allows families to grow crops year round on 4 hectares, (10 acres) providing them with a steady income; cost = $250

Each participant was asked to knit one or more squares that we will assemble to form a water-themed afghan.

Afghan square:
Yarn – Schachenmayr SMC “Catania”; 100% cotton, 50g ball
Colour - water shades
Size - 15 cm x 15 cm square
Design - anything to do with water

We are now up to 130 squares!!! Thank you Ladies! Now comes the fun part of sewing it together…

It’s done, yeah!!!

Next week we will see how many wells we can provide for Cambodia.
People, we were a great team, I loved every minute working together with all of you!
Maybe everyone involved will curse me now when I am saying:

I hope we will do something like this again!

      :)

The raffle brought a total of EUR 1330 (about $1500) which means either 10 Family Wells or 6 Field Wells can be built!
