Swatching. It may turn out to be a mistake but I’m going to use heavier yarn than what the pattern calls for because that’s all I got. Living dangerously…
NOTES/MEASUREMENTS:
body (btm into armpit) - approx. 42 cm
body (btm to top shoulder) - approx. 59 cm
button band (approx.) - 50 cm

I’m at the point where the pattern calls for increases at the bottom, I think I’m going to skip this and do some waist shaping instead.
decreases: start @ 7 cm, every 8 rows (x5)
(decrease 2 stitches away of either side of marker, every 8th row)
extra decreases at back starting at 14 cm, 4 rows apart (x6)
increases: …
buttons: 22 rows apart (3 cm at top & at btm), last 2 closer together at the top. 8 buttons. (I should have used more so that they would be closer together — I have gaps when I do it up)
sleeves: CO 42, @ 13 cm inc. every 6th row (x3) then every 8th (x8)
The bottom back of the sweater puffs out a bit, I think I should have skipped the extra decreases at the back. We’ll see what blocking does.
May 9 - redoing sleeve #1 - too narrow. Not redoing the ribbing but should have CO 48 - I’m just making the increases happen faster.
June 4 - Done knitting and just I love it. I think this is the best sweater I’ve made so far. I’ll post more pics when I find buttons and clean up the ends…
I’d like to make a similar cardigan with a more open neck. I noticed as I was knitting up the yoke that it looks really great with a wider collar.
Oct 22 2011 : After all of this time I finally got the buttons on. It took me a long time to find ones I was happy with. I put it on, buttoned it all up and wouldn’t you know it, HUGE gaps between buttons. Very disappointing. There’s no way I would re-knit this so I think I will have to figure something else out. Snaps? Just never do it up? I dunno. :’(
