Notes

A special birthday present for my dear friend .
The yarn is lovely.
I will probably have to buy more to make a reasonable sized throw.

I found this pattern quite difficult to follow and get a good result.I did the beginning row of the cables about 3 times before I got it right.
I thought the instructions for where to make the stitches was a bit confusing.
A stitch chart would be helpful to clarify this.
The first set of cable stitches pulled and puckered the fabric.
I found that I needed to make sure that I made my post stitches more loose than I normally would and make sure I extended the loops to ensure they were long enough to reach the current stitch row without pulling and distorting the fabric.
Once I got this sussed the project went better.
To get the first row of cables in the correct stitches I counted stitches between carefully and used lots of stitch markers.
I really like the appearance of this throw in the pattern.
I hope I will get the same result.

My work has not turned out like the designers throw. My tension is much tighter than the designer’s, which is odd because normally my tension is average. I think I would have needed to use a hook one or two sizes bigger to get a similar loose stitched appearance.
As a consequence my work has pulled in at the crossovers on the cables. I think this would have been solved by making treble post stitches at the crossover. However by the time I realised that, the tucking effect was not resolving
I wasn’t willing to undo all my work. As I didn’t find the result unpleasant I continued with the same hook and stitches.
The throw has turned out a lot smaller than the original but it makes a very cozy knee rug. It also has much more of a 3D appearance which I like.Because of the tucking at the crossovers the sides of the rug are ruffled. Again, I rather like this look. I won’t add a border stitch on the sides so it stays rippled.
The project has taken me a long time. I didn’t really enjoy the repetitive nature of the pattern as, rather than being able to work fast and watch a movie or chat, as I usually can with a simple repeating pattern, I had to count stitches very carefully between cables and even so, still made frequent mistakes requiring two rows redoing to remedy.
I will be very happy when it’s finished and delivered and I can move on to the next project.

Finally finished. I had to buy an extra 100gm ball of yarn to finishe the last few stitches so I ended up using most of it and added another pattern repeat. I made a border at each end of two rows of hdc and one of reverse so.
I wove in all the ends. Done.

The second photo is the closest to the true colour- a dark burgundy.
