Notes

3/22/2010: Got the yarn for this project in the mail today, will be casting on this evening! Very excited.

3/23/2010: Cast on last night. I’ve never knit a shawl, nor have I done a provisional cast-on before. Did a little research and did the crochet provisional cast-on. the knitting around the 3 sides of the first 6 rows of garter stitch were a little fiddly, but after I got it done and have worked through row 25 of chart A, I see how it works seamlessly into the pattern! Very cool. I love this yarn. The color is beautiful. It’s soft. It’s a little splitty though. I think this is going to be an awesome project all in all. Lace always keeps me entertained :-)

3/29/2010: Took a road trip to Boston this weekend which meant my BF was driving (since he has no handy portable, car-friendly hobbies) so I got to work on this. I managed to get through row 69 just in the car as I was out an about doing things. It’s a great pattern. I find myself dropping YOs a little too frequently so I’ve started counting my stitches after every row :-\ Oh well…it’s looking beautiful!

5/26/2010: After having to put this down to finish the semester and knit a baby blanket for my nephew-to-be, I’ve picked it back up. Starting to get back into the swing of things.

5/31/2010: 17 rows into chart B. Looking forward to finishing this project. If I can get it done by Thursday night or so, I might wear it to the wedding I’m going to Saturday…

6/1/2010: Almost done. Squee! Can’t wait to block my first shawl. I find chart B much more fluid than Chart A. MUCH easier to memorize.

6/3/2010: HATE the crochet bind off (looks pretty though. It took me about half way around to realize that I should not k3tog with the loops still on the knitting needle to remain sane. Instead I slipped the 3 stitches off needle (kind of in the same way as if I were cabling without a cable needle by holding the bottom of the stitches between my thumb and index finger and going at the loops with the crochet hook that way). I am nearly done with it at this point. I hope to block tonight and photograph tomorrow, perhaps.

Later on that same evening…I’ve blocked it. Who knew blocking lace was such a PITA? I guess all those people out there who have actually blocked lace before…

6/4/2010: Blocking complete. I think I’m in love. I honestly can’t believe I made this!
