Stockinette until work measures 6” from CO.
Garter st two rows each while changing colors every other row, but on second color change make eyelet holes for braided strand (YO, K2tog) and attach pompoms after feeding braid through the eyelet holes. Weave in ends.

Pull and tie braided string into a bow for hat or leave open for a neck gaiter.
