Notes

Garter stitch border with stockinette center and intarsia whale motif. Motif and matching seed stitch cloth are done in lime green of the same brand cotton yarn.

Whale cloth measures 8” x 9” before washing and 7 1/2” x 9” after washing. Cast on 35 sts, work 6 rows garter stitch, work 5 rows in stockinette with a 4 stitch (1”) garter border at beginning and end of all rows. Begin whale motif if working intarsia while maintaining stockinette with garter border, continuing in stockinette pattern after whale is complete until work measures 7”. Complete with 6 rows garter stitch, then bind off. Options: Whale motif can also be completed by knitting over the top of the stitches after the cloth is complete if you prefer that method to intarsia, which may look a little messy on the wrong side. For a square cloth instead of retangular, I would recommend either casting on only 30 sts (8” x 8”) and extending the stockinette stitch until work is 8” before finishing with garter border.

Seed stitch cloth measures 8 1/4” x 9 1/4” before washing and becomes a 8 1/4” square after washing. Cast on 30 sts, work seed stitch until work measures 9 1/4”, bind off.
