Notes

Class sponsored by West Coast Knitters’ Guild. Pattern “Salish Toque” by Sylvia Olsen and yarn provided in a kit for the class.

Changes:

  • used the cable cast-on as recommended in class, but worked the first row flat so that the twisted edge was on the outside, not the purl-bump side. Then joined and continued to work in the round.
  • chose to work with a colour rather than the standard black-grey-white palette
  • reversed the colours in the colourwork band: CC1-red, CC2-natural black
  • added two rows of plain knitting in MC between Rounds 20 and 21
  • crown top: decreased to 4st, then worked a 8-10 round i-cord and sewed it down into a loop

I suspect the yarn is Custom Woolen Mills Lopi Soft Spun -- a lofty, lightly-spun yarn. Soft and pleasant to work with. Grey: Colour 03 Natural Medium Grey
71 gm used in hat = 93.8m

Even though I have a freakishly large head, the hat feels a little big on me; I may full it a little in the dryer.

Husband likes the hat, but wants a deeper crown -- “to cover my ears”. If I make it for him, I will add 2-3 rows just before and again just after the colourwork band.
