The minute I saw this cowl I fell in love with it and was beyond excited to have the honor to test-knit this new pattern - thanks so much!
Father by YOTH and Talisker is the perfect yarn and pattern combination. Because I noticed some striping with the Sea Salt color way in my swatch, I alternated my yarn balls to try and minimize the effect.
The gorgeous cable pattern is so addictive and fun I was truly sad when I was finished knitting the cowl!
I would recommend weighing your yarn at the beginning of this project and making a note of how much yarn is used for the beginning ribbing section and then for a cabled repeat to make sure you have enough yarn to finish the final ribbing section. I had to dip into a third ball just a tiny bit to finish the top ribbing.
I used 7 grams for the cast-on, 26 grams for the beginning ribbing, 11 grams for the transition rounds, 22 grams for each cable repeat, 26 grams for the final ribbing, and 5 grams for the bind-off.
I experimented with a couple of different bind-offs and found that the basic bind-off worked best. The Russian Bind-Off was just too loose.
Found it very helpful to use stitch markers at the beginning of the pattern to keep my place until the pattern was established and I could read my knitting. I used one type of stitch marker to separate each panel and then a different type of stitch marker within each panel for the cables. Within each panel, I placed markers at 12 - 9 - 9 - 9 - 7 stitches.
This is truly my new favorite cowl pattern - hope my family and friends love it as much as I do - I’ve already flagged this cowl as my official 2016 (Christmas) Gift Cowl!
