The “READ” part was definitely the most challenging bit -- never done double knitting that wasn’t reversed on the other side. But I’m happy with it.

If you’re reading this because you think you might want to make this scarf, I have a word of advice: when you start, make the side with the lighter color as the background the right side. The chart that you use to make the word “READ” appear correct on both sides (rather than reversed) has black squares and white squares, and the black squares are meant to be the ones that form the word READ. Black was one of the colors I used and I made the side with the black background the right side…which meant that the black squares on the chart were actually to be done in red. This caused me a lot of confusion -- if I wasn’t paying close attention, I’d find myself doing the black squares in black, and then having to go back and fix it. And fixing mistakes without frogging is not easy in this section, so best to get it right the first time. I also used markers every 10 stitches and double-checked each section before moving on to the next.
