This was one I’d wanted to make for years but kept putting off because as a rule I am not overly fond of colorwork. I ended up using this method of dealing with floats, which is really just twisting the strands every other stitch. I do notice the blue strands showing through the black in a few places, but not enough for it to be a huge problem.
I found lisapane’s project notes helpful for this one. I tried to follow her suggestion of doing the sleeves using an intarsia technique, but found that I really, really hated purling with two colors…though I had to deal with it when it came time to do the short rows around the neck -- I found this video helpful in figuring out how to do that, but it will never be my favorite thing.
About those short rows around the neck: I noticed when I finished them and went to do those last couple of rounds before the ribbing for the collar, there would have been huge gaps if I hadn’t picked up a few stitches in between the ones on the needle at the corners, in the places where the pattern said to slip stitches. I ended up with 16 extra stitches (so 100 in total), which I decreased over the next 2 rounds at the same places where the raglan decreases were, ending up with 84 as the pattern said.
Also, I found that my gauge with a single color was very different than it was when I was using 2 colors and carrying one or the other along the back, so I basically did that even on the right arm where I didn’t actually have to, because I didn’t want the arms to be two different lengths. Made it take longer, but with a pandemic raging, it’s not like I had much else to do anyway.
For the sleeves and collar, I used 2 circulars since I dislike DPNs.
