Many thanks to dryadmoon and lvrmous for being willing to sell me their skeins of the Breeze yarn. Sadly Jo-Ann’s only offers this yarn seasonally, and it looks like they may have discontinued this particular colorway. But due to the modifications I’ve made to this pattern to accommodate a thinner yarn, I need much more yarn.
I somewhat screwed up the modifications. I attempted to cast on 3x more stitches. But if I could start over, I’d take a closer look at the stitch counts / math. If you were to increase the stitch count, for whatever reason, I believe you would do multiples of X stitches + Y. Because I didn’t do the stitch count properly, some of the mitre squares are a bit wonky / rectangular.
Also, because I found this pattern to be a bit tedious (in a fingering weight) / yardage concerns, I opted to only do 45 garter ridges (90 rows) for the Garter Blocks. This left me with more of a square shaped blanket vs. rectangular.
For the center block, doing the SK2P stitches left the middle square too small, thus making the middle portion a bit ruffly. Frogged the center block and doing SSK / K2TOG decreases every other row, at the corners. Because my blanket is square shaped, I didn’t need to do a 3 needle bind off for the center square. Just do the pattern, until just a few stitches remain, then draw yarn through the remaining loops - like you would do with a knitted hat.
For the border, I did attempt the applied I-Cord border. But found the boucle yarn a bit too fiddly and slippery, not to mention it was difficult to see where to pick up stitches. Instead, I just did a Single Crochet border with an E hook. It looks just fine.
I really like how this yarn looks in the pattern, but if I were to make this blanket again, I would NOT use fingering weight boucle yarn. It just takes too long to do. I would opt for a self-striping worsted or bulky weight.
