Just started and I’m already puzzled by the first row…

20-06-2019

Started over - it is fine. I am trying 2.75mm and 2.25mm needles - we will see.
I am aiming for a very ethereal shawl (more like a veil), but I don’t want it to be too huge !

24-06-2019

So I can’t see the difference between the two needles… I’ll keep on with the bigger ones as they have little holes to put the safe lines in, which is a time saver.

04-07-2019

12 repeats out of 85 ;)

13-07-2019

22 points. « Skap-yo-skap-yo-skap-knitandpurl-trois-yo-skap-yo-skap… » feels like learning a poem !

20-08-2019

Finished with the border !
Having a line along the edge helped ENORMOUSLY for picking up the stitches - although it looks a little bit like a break row, Because maybe it’s not the right thread to pick up stitches from, but I don’t care. It took me 1 hour or so, I liked it !

05-09-2019

I am working on the 18th row of the border.
Slow and steady !
Its hard to evaluate the % of what is done.

01-10-2019

Row 40. I can’t really work on it everyday right now. November should be better.

05-11-2019

Feathered Border Pattern Chart 1 : Done !

01-12-2019

Row 89 - I can’t believe “half” of the border pattern is only at row 110. I wish it was at row 100, seems closer !

12-12-2019

I dropped a bunch of stitches last night !!!!!!!!! Nightmare !!!!!!!!
I think it did not unravel further than 3 rows. I hope I can make it back right. I must do it quickly because I don’t want to be late on schedule !

So it took me about 4h to fix it. I catched the stitches between 1 and 4 rows below, unpicked the whole repetition (78st) for 4 rows, then knitted it back. It seems fairly invisible ! Yay !

17-12-2019

I finished page 2 of the border chart. I am very happy of my progress this month :) And super-motivated !!! It looks very pretty. I really hope it will work beautifully with the dress, as a veil (still having doubts… but I’ll use it as a shawl if not !)

14-02-2020

I finished the border chart ! I am very happy !
I’m doing the 6 plain rows - very boring, then I’ll practice the “Laurel Leaf Pattern”.
I hope the following won’t take too long, the wedding is in exactly 4 months…

Also, last week, I went to buy fabric to make my dress - exciting !!! But a little bit disappointed in the color of my yarn, this “Ivory” is very yellow. It should not look bad on the ivory fabric with a good blocking. But If I had to do it again, I might have chosen a different color for the yarn (then, a different yarn, as there is no white).

01-03-2020

Finished the Laurel Leaf pattern, doing some more plain rows. Looking forward to knit the center !

08-05-2020

So my wedding has been postponed until next year. It makes it much more difficult to keep on knitting 1hr a day … I have significantly slowed down the rythm.
It was indeed a big challenge to get this done in a year.

Anyway, I have 286 rows left of the center panel, then the border… It feels like it’s never ending !

15-06-2020

Ok, 362 days left to finish this crazy project. It should be alright ;)
I have approximately 4 more repetitions of the center stitch to go, then the top border. I feel good about it. Also, I am finally on holidays, and knitting in this beautiful parc is awesome !

25-12-2020

I finished the center !!! Before NewYear smirk
It took FOREVER !!!
I hope the final border is going to be quick and easy stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye

07-01-2021

So after a while of contemplation, I did finally pick up my stitches. I think it is not perfect, but I managed to get 29 of them, I think only two were not exactly in the right place.
I have knitted 2 1/2 points so far (out of 49 if my calculations are exact) sweat_smile
It seems easier than the first time I knitted the border, but it is still quite demanding in term of concentration. Like, it is really hard to watch a movie at the same time. I will go back to podcasts then !

17-01-2021

I knitted 13 points, so approx 1/4 of the top border. I reached the center stitches. It seems fast… Although it did take me 10 days !
So… Finished in a month ? °°°fingers crossed°°°

07-02-2021

Half the points of the top border done :D

12-04-2021

OMG ! I finished the knitting !

Just one little graft to go… hard to believe. How am I going to go on without that huge pile of work waiting for me ? zany_face

28-05-2021

So I blocked it last week… Well I mean, I tried ! I had to move furniture around, and still I had to fold it in half. The point is not well blocked. It is HUUUUUGE !!!
My fiance (who did not see it blocked) suggested I block it on a vertical mattress, going all around. I may try it, although once worn, the details of the dressing don’t show so it does not seem absolutely necessary.

I have no idea how I will wear that. It is so big. I feel like a queen !
Anyway, since we are only going to city hall this year with only a few family members, I won’t be wearing it for the wedding. Maybe in the evening, as a shawl, but not as a veil yet.

28-05-2021

Finished dimensions :

  • Wingspan : 5m
  • Height : 2.5m
  • Down border from side to side : 5m

17-10-2022

The wedding finally took place, I proudly wore my shawl as a veil, and I loved it !!!
