Notes

Since all of my branding is tied to bees, I thought these sweet little hexagons would be a cute way to bridge my apiarist inclinations with my love for vintage things and fine-gauge projects. They turned out nice.

Yarns: The main color is a dark gray (looks black) and is Cascade 220 (unplied to use just 2 of the 4 plies). Some other yarns were Fibre Company Road to China (unplied to use just one ply), Malabrigo Lace yarn held double, Harrisville Shetland (unplied to use just one ply), Cascade 220 sport (unplied to use just one ply), Misti Alpaca Worsted (unplied to use just two of the four plies), Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, Artyarns Cashmere Sock, Ella Rae Classic (unplied to use just two of the four plies), Jamieson & Smith Shetland 2-ply jumper weight (held double), Skacel Kid Seta Lux (held double), Zealana Kia Ora Rimu Fingering, Orkney Angora St. Magnus DK, and some others.

Woolen-spun yarns (stretch a bit when tugged on because the air is compressed out of the yarn under tension) work well for projects like this. They are forgiving of slight gauge inconsistencies and the ends of woolen-spun yarns are not as likely to come undone after being woven in. Worsted-spun yarns (yarns that are not airy; they feel firm and do not stretch when tugged on), and especially those with smooth (or no) scale structure (i.e. alpaca, silk, and any plant or synthetic-process fiber—rayon, acrylic, etc.) will be less effective for this project. Use them sparingly, if at all. (Good worsted yarns to use would be ones with cashmere, angora, or kid mohair content as all of these fibers have or develop a halo that will lock the yarn in place.)
