Saturday 22 May
After an aborted attempt at Sensational Knitting Socks’ Sock Class, moving on to this alternative Sock tutorial quickly before I get discouraged by previous failed attempt. This time I am using conventional sock yarn and am finding it a bit tough for my thick sausagey fingers to handle such thin yarn. This is really tough on my fingers - I wish I’d learnt to knit 20 years ago, when my hands were not so stiff!… Am not very good with handling the DPNs - they’re 20cm long and really annoying.

Sunday 23 May
Am hating the feel of this yarn while I am knitting it - there is something so artificial about it… Also not keen on how it looked last night and wished I’d used normal Zauberball yarn instead. However the close-up photo I took this morning really shows up the lovely colour mix in the 2-ply yarn and I really like it after all!

Tuesday 25 May
Last night I changed to slightly shorter (18cm) needles - only 2cm shorter but it’s amazing what a difference it makes to the process.

Saturday 29 May
Hooray! Finished the first sock today! Kitchener stitch was no problem.

Saturday 12 June
For some reason it took me 2 weeks to do the second sock, whereas I had taken only 1 week to do the first! Still can see ugly ladders on the 2nd sock, although I really tried to pull the yarn tight at the start of each needle change. Bleurgh! Not too keen on the huge patch of electric orange - I did not risk cut it out in fear of running out of yarn - I need not have worried as I still have plenty left…

Final Thoughts
Not sure if I’d use this yarn again - I think IT is the reason for the ladders (it does not stay tight even when I pull on it). Additionally, it does not actually feel very nice against the skin. However, there is no denying the colours look great.

Because of ladders, not sure DPNs are for me so am now trying out Magic Loop on my next pair of socks.
