At the fall 2014 Shepard’s Market held at the Amana Woolen Mill I picked up a skein of naturally grey Cheviot wool with 10% mohair and 10% Tencel mixed in. The gauge on this yarn seems a little lower (fewer sts per inch) than most sock yarn so I played around a bit with needles and sock size. I think this pattern will work well. It has enough stretch to fit well without adding too much bulk. It made a good waiting-in-the -hospital project while my husband was recovering from major surgery.

After setting this aside for a couple of other projects, the first sock was completed 12/25/15. Second sock done 12/31/15. Last project of the year.

The first pair has alas worn out. Second pair begun 1/15/20 with Stitch Together yarn using 2.75mm needles. Having recently worked another pattern with the same gauge that fit well, I went with the size medium even though my foot is closer to 8 than 9” diameter.
Mods:

• Used Estonian CO
• Did not work purl rd after ribbing
• Extended sl st heel through the entire gusset and added it again under the ball of the foot for the last ~1” before the dec begin. My bony feet wear through my precious socks & I’m hoping this might help.

Third Pair 5/23/23 - 11/26/23

• 2.25 mm needles this time. These are really snug. Time will tell if too snug.
