Pot Sock Frock and Petticoat (L. Prior) pattern used and adapted, employing 2 circular needle method.
Utilized the underlayer of pattern, changing top closure for the brown “body.” Turtleneck-like ribbed top became neck, folded down, doubled to support head. Adapted underlayer of pattern for white “shirt.”
Used purchased, thin dressmaker shoulder pads for the padding (cut to size) - adapted leaf pattern to the shape I wanted for “shoulders.”
Photos show 1st two failed attempts at shoulders: (1) using pattern method of pick-up & knit at spout for extra fabric, then doubling back on itself to tack at top, to be stuffed (uncontrolled/undefined shape); (2) knitting separate “mushroom” shapes, stuffing, then sewing on near top (too bulky/bulbous).
Also added charcoal color ribbed border at bottom (not in pattern) for stretch and to delineate a “belt.”
Rhinestone clip-on earring “buckle” sewn in between layers to secure and keep metal on the inside of knitting. Only needed 1 yarn over eyelet to insert clip end through outer knitting layer.
Pirate doll (A. Dart) used for head and hair/mustache/beard/ears/nose. However, head size was too small for this scale. Added and seamed and other 1/2 head to back to increase size. Further enhanced pattern with pinching/sewing eye socket/eyebrow area.
Ended up with very little forehead, so knitted a brown “flap” piece to attach top hair to, leaving extra brown knitting at the front to form forehead, Placed stuffing behind forehead area before sewing down “hairpiece,” therefore allowing forehead to stay more vertical than simply leaving space for it at the top of the ball shaped head.
Lion fun fur: trimmed, trimmed, trimmed repeatedly to keep short - it seemed to actually be growing! I guess ends kept popping out after the knitting. Not idea to use as short hair - better for long hair projects.
Eyes are vintage “Moving eyes” that jiggle; mouth was embroidered using Picnic Cotton Crepe/satin stitch.
