Held yarn quadruple (2 strands each color yarn) as this pattern calls for Super-Bulky (2 sts. per in) -- 1 strand each color, throughout.

I used the cast-on method suggested and it made the edge look very nice. Another omission in the pattern is that it does not tell you the “set up” cast on rows leaves a whole at the edge of the hat before the join in the round (which is at the 3rd row. Weaving in the cast-on tail fixes it but it’s odd. Would not use this pattern again. I had higher expectations of a Purl Soho pattern.

MISTAKE IN PATTERN: Asterisk in the wrong place after placing markers for decreases: it does not state to decrease at each marker, which is incorrect.

So that set me off on the wrong path and I did not decrease correctly so the pattern of stitches at the top is not correct, but because of the yarn marling, it is hard to tell.

Absentmindedly used size 15 double-pointed needles to finish the top after using size 17 circulars to start … not such a good idea, but it worked though it was hard knitting.

Did not have time to block before sending off the gift. Such chunky, squishy yarn though -- seemed ok.
