I’ve been asked about these sweaters so often that I thought I’d add them to my Ravelry projects page. I made these sweaters in the early 1990s. I started out by making one for my daughter who was about 12 at the time, then one for each of her friends and before I knew it, I was knitting them (by hand) and selling them. I made over 100 sweaters! At that time, in Germany, the New Kids were a huge hit but there were were no fan shirts available, so I made up this design.
The sweater is my own pattern. It’s a basic pullover with drop sleeves. Oversized clothing was popular so all sweaters were the same size: a ladies medium, which was big on the girls. Each piece (back, front, each sleeve) had the name of a NKOTB album at the top and then all the songs on that album were listed below.
I can’t remember what black yarn I used other than it was by Phildar. I made many trips to Strassbourg, France (not at all a hardship!!) to get bags and bags of yarn. The name Pronostic comes to mind, but I’m not sure. It was a DK weight.
I have no idea what the neon-colored yarn is. I may have ordered it by mail from England.
I don’t think I have the pattern any longer as I never expected to ever make New Kids On The Block sweaters again! I’d be surprised if it showed up in an old box or binder.
I wonder where all those sweaters are today? I think that my daughter’s sweater ended up being donated to Goodwill or somewhere similar.
