I’ve been so excited to knit these mitts!

I didn’t realize that Tanis was going to be discontinuing her Fiddlehead Mittens kits, so I’m so happy that I ordered it while it was still available! After I placed my order I received an e-mail from Tanis thanking me for the order, and there was also a handwritten note in the kit. What nice personal touches!

I knit the outer mitts over 5 days while on vacation (in Florida, no less). Fair isle is so mesmerizing…it’s magical watching the pattern appear row by row.

I have to be honest, I had fleeting thoughts of, “do I really need to knit the liner mitts? No-one will really see them and it’s knitting 4 mittens instead of 2”. But I have to say, the lining really makes these mittens complete. First of all, it makes them look so much more finished (and I love that the lining is purple, my favourite colour). Probably most importantly, it really adds a layer of warmth and thickness and smooshiness which will be much appreciated when the weather gets cold! And finally, it covers all of those long floats so fingers don’t get caught putting on the mittens.

I did run out of the purple lining yarn for both thumbs, but had extra from the fair isle purple, so it worked out.

Loved the pattern, loved the yarn! Also, the i-cord cast on was new for me, and loved that, too!
