Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors

For the sample I used Bernat premium in green color and cream color.
You need 70gr of your main color and 50gr of the color you will make the toes, heel and the brim.

• Hook size 6mm/ US crochet hook size J
• Tapestry needle
• 1 stitch marker
• Pair of scissors

Abbreviations:
St(s)- stitch(es)
Ch(s)-chains(s)
Sc3tog- 3 single crochet stitches worked together- decrease
Sc2tog- 2 single crochet stitches worked together- decrease
dc-double crochet
sl.st – slip stitch
MR-magic ring
MC- main color
Trng ch- Turning chain
Hdc- half double crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Working in 3RD loop of HDC- When we make regular hdc stitch we have the usual front loop and back loop of the stitch , but we also have 1 more additional stitch behind the regulars and this is our 3rd st in which we will be working. You can check the video tutorial in the post bellow for better understanding.

FPcl- Front Post double crochet cluster stitch- Make 2 Front post double crochet together in 1 stitch

Pattern:

Start with the toe

-with cream color

Rnd 1: Start with MR, secure with slip knot, ch 2, make 11 dc into the ring, join with sl.st in 2nd ch of initial ch-2. (12)

Rnd 2: ch 3(count as dc), dc in base of initial ch-3, 2 dc in each st acround, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (24)

Rnd 3: ch 3 (count as dc), 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st rep from * to * till the end, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Rnd 4: ch 3(count as dc), dc in each st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Switch to green color (your MC)

Rnd 5: ch 1, sc in base of initial ch-1, sc in each st around, join with sl.st

Rnd 6: ch 3(count as dc), dc in each st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Rnd 7: ch 3, FPcl in next st, dc in next st, FPcl in next st rep from * to * till the end, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Rnd 8: ch 2(count as hdc), hdc in each st around, join with sl.st in 2nd ch of initial ch-2. (36)

• Work the next round in the 3rd loop of the hdc st that we have made in prev rnd. Look special stitch section.*

Rnd 9: ch 3, dc in 3rd loop of each hdc st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Repeat rounds 7-9 three (3) more times.

Put stitch marker on the 34th st of rnd 18

Continue making the heel.

Switch to cream color

Heel:

** Row 1:** Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in next 15 sts, ch 3, turn (16)

Row 2-4: ch 3(count as dc), dc in next 14 sts, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3, ch 3, turn (16)

Row 5: dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 8 sts, dc in next 3 sts, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3, ch 2, turn (16)

Row 6: hdc in next 3 sts, * sc2tog* rep from * to * 4 times, hdc in next 3 sts, hdc in 3rd ch of turning ch-3. (12)

Now we will close the heel and continue on making the upper part of stocking.

Fold the heel and align both sides. Take your hook and ch 1, now insert your hook in the first st of 1st side and then through 1st st of 2nd side, now make sl.st, continue this till you join the whole heel.

Now we will start making the upper part of the stocking.

We will start working around the heel.

While we work around the heel we will make the stitches around the post of each first or last st of each row of the heel. In this rnd we have decrease part where we will make 3 sc stitches together- sc3tog . When we make the first decrease we will make the first 2 sc into the next 2 sts and 3rd sc will be made around the post of the 1st row of the heel. Then we will work them together.

When we make our second decrease of – sc3tog- we will make the first sc around the post of the 1st st of row 1 of heel and the next 2 sc stitches will be made in the next 2 sts. See pics bellow.

Rnd 19: Insert your hook in the stitch where we put stitch marker, pull a loop, ch 1, sc in base of initial ch 1, sc3tog, * 2 sc in next ch-sp, rep from to * 4 times, sc in each of next ch-sp, * 2 sc in next ch-sp, sc3tog, sc in each rem st, join with sl.st on top of 1st st. ()

Rnd 20: ch 3(count as dc), dc in each st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Rnd 21: ch 3, FPcl in next st, dc in next st, FPcl in next st rep from * to * till the end, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Rnd 22: ch 2(count as hdc), hdc in each st around, join with sl.st in 2nd ch of initial ch-2. (36)

• Work the next round in the 3rd loop of the hdc st that we have made in prev rnd. Look special stitch section.

Rnd 23: ch 3, dc in 3rd loop of each hdc st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Repeat rounds 21-23 three (3) more times.

Rnd 33-34: ch 3(count as dc), dc in each st around, join with sl.st in 3rd ch of initial ch-3. (36)

Now we will start making the brim

Switch to cream color

Eah row of the brim is worked in Back loop only- BLO

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, skip 1 st of rnd 34, sl.st in next st, turn

** Row 2:** sc in each st across, ch 1, turn (9)

Row 3: sc in each st across, skip 1 st of rnd 34 of the stocking, sl.st in next st (9)

Repeat alternating row 2-3 till you reach the end.

I was looking for Bernard Premium when I stumbled upon (bare shelves) this Premier Puzzle.

I was so surprised by the two colors I needed I scooped them up.

Didn’t pay attention I was buying Bulky (7) so this stocking is oversized compared to original pattern result using worsted weight (4).

Making two reversing the colors.
