This red washcloth was made for my friend Tara who kindly brought me back 2 cases of Ale-8-1 ginger ale while visiting family at a wedding in KY. I haven’t tasted this Kentucky-brewed ginger ale in 20 years.
I first tasted it back in 1997 when I found my biological family in Lexington, KY. The first sip was a little weird, and honestly the first bottle almost tasted like horse piss to me (which is what they said… ) But i tried it one more time and was hooked. It’s kind of like sushi in this aspect, once you like it, your body craves it.
It has only just recently been released in Cracker Barrels across the nation. Until now, it has been impossible to get in South Carolina.
Thanks, Tara!
Now a few notes about the pattern and yarn choice:
Pattern direct link: http://snappy-tots.com/scrubbies-week-10/
No adjustments to the pattern.
I noticed this yarn almost feels like you are working with wax or for some reason the combination of my hook and yarn are rough together.
The stitch she calls “Chunky HDC” requires to pull the hook through all four loops on the hook at once, stopping after the first 2, then twisting your hook to get through the second two. This only took a few rows to “master.”
I liked the result. And may do this a few more times.

The 2nd and 3rd washcloth made with Violet Stripes and I ran out right halfway round the last round. This is because I used the first part of the skein for the Facial Poufs. I knew I was pushing it, but now I am off to Michaels to get another one. Hope it’s there :))
The dye lot was different and resulted in the color variance. Neat to see that they complement each other and don’t match exactly. I like that since I made them for a couple in love.

Getting Better!!
The next washcloth made with Daisy Ombre for my friend Juli, who just moved into a new home, named Shellrock Manor.
Clearly, I will need 2 balls each time if I expect to continue to make matching pairs. Another trip to Michaels by tomorrow after church. I hope the sale is still on.

Afraid that one day the link could be gone, here is the pattern instructions from the link http://snappy-tots.com/scrubbies-week-10/
Pretty N Easy Dish Cloth
-------Materials-------
Cotton yarn in color of choice
I Crochet Hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
------Special Stitches------
FHDC (foundation half double crochet): Click HERE https://www.mooglyblog.com/foundation-half-double-crochet/ for a tutorial on this stitch.
Chunky Hdc; Click HERE https://snappy-tots.com/how-to-chunky-hdc-stitch/ for a tutorial on this stitch or see description below.
YO twice, insert hook in designated st, pull up a loop, YO and pull through all loops on hook.
Tip: As you pull through the loops, pull through two, slightly rotate hook and pull through the other two loops. That will make it easier to get through the loops.
-------Directions-------
- With I hook and cotton yarn, create a fhdc of 20 sts. (20sts)
If preferred, start with a regular chain of 21 sts, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (20sts)
2 – 15. Ch 1, turn, chunky hdc in each st to end of row.
At this point, the cloth should be close to a square. Add more rows if needed.
-
Ch 1, turn, chunky hdc in each st until one st remains, (hdc, 2 sc) in last st.
-
Ch 1, do not turn. This step is worked around the outer edge of the entire cloth. Sc evenly along side of cloth, 3sc in corner, sc across bottom of cloth, 3sc in corner, sc evenly along side of cloth, 3sc in corner, sc across cloth, sl st to first st to join.
-
Ch 1, sc, ch 1, repeat to corner, 2sc in corner st, ch 1,, repeat to end of round, sl st to join.
Note: do not skip any sts as part of the repeat. The “ch 1” creates a little ripple to the edge.
Finish off and weave in ends.
